Emotion-Focused Therapy

How others in our lives responded to us in the past may have set up internal predictions for how others should/could respond to us in those moments when we need them most. Sometimes that means being so scared that someone will not be there that we are always anxious and scared. Sometimes that means we shut down and withdraw so as not to risk being hurt. At other times we go back and forth between these two responses. Emotion-focused therapy helps us to understand these internal predictions and get in touch with the strong emotion that can captain our ship towards compassionate connection with ourselves and others.
