Immigrants and Refugees
Finding a sense of belonging in a new country presents opportunities and challenges. Do you miss home? Do you feel alienated after a move to a new community? Are you feeling angry or disappointed that expectations for life in Canada did not come to fruition in the way you wanted? Or do you feel like it was not your choice to be here in the first place?
Adaptation can take time and can involve honeymoon, culture shock, recovery and adjustment. At Hawthorn we can meet you wherever you are at in these stages and move with you through them, as well as help you to connect to any useful resources to support a sense of belonging. We also recognize that many immigrants and refugees experience job and other forms of discrimination in Canada and leave space for you to talk through those experiences in therapy.
